What's fresh

Do you “Paleta” or Popsicle?

Growing up in LA, one of the predominant sounds that bring many childhood memories is the faint jingle of bells on the streets that you will encounter on a sunny day.

It’s the “Paletero”! The man who pushed an iced box on wheels with bells attached to the handle of the cart.

He would ring them and walk down your street. On a really warm day you would see a large mass of children and adults gathered around this magical man that brought frozen happiness on a stick.

Flavors’ ranging from Coconut, Pineapple, Strawberry, Lemon, Bubblegum, Banana, Peach, Watermelon and the list goes on and on. All Flavors were either Water or Milk based. My particular favorite was Creamy Coconut. I loved the bottom part of the paleta! It had all the coconut shavings waiting for me at the end.

We are so happy to see that the whole Popsicle, or shall I say “Paleta” movement has been resurrected.

Everyone has been playing with different flavor combinations and so have we.

As the days have been unseasonably warm in Los Angeles, we thought it would be a good way to start off any day or week with happiness on a stick!

Here is one of our favorite combinations

Greek Kiwi Strawberry Paletas!

3 – Strawberries

1 – Kiwi Peeled

1 ¼- Cups Vanilla Greek Yogurt

Directions: (Makes 4 people Very Happy)

  1. Thinly Slice all the Strawberries and Kiwis.
  2. Prepare your Popsicle / Paleta molds.
  3. Start by adding about a teaspoon of yogurt to the bottom of the mold. This will allow the yogurt to help hold up the fruit. Add the thin slices to the side of the popsicle mold, pushing down the bottom. Keep adding more yogurt, more fruit until you’re to the top.
  4. Add the Love Sticks! (aka – popsicle sticks)
  5. Place the molds in the Ice Box and let the magic happen for about 1-2hours.
  6. Take them out and enjoy your Paleta for Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner!
